A real printed HideQuest page with three pirate clue cards: a rhyming riddle for the next hiding spot, a captain for each clue, and a number for each child to copy onto their sheet.

How a HideQuest treasure hunt works

1. Each clue is a riddle

Every card is a rhyming riddle for the next real hiding spot in your home: the couch cushion, a rain boot, the bathroom door. A grown-up strip on top tells you where to hide it.

A printed Clue 2 card: a rhyming riddle about a rain boot, a captain for the clue, each child's number, and the grown-up strip saying to hide it under the couch cushion.

2. Every kid solves at their own level

Each card shows a number for every child. Little kids count pictures; older kids use their number in a math problem matched to their age. Each answer goes on their own sheet.

The age 7 First Mate sheet: copy the number from the card into the dashed box, solve, and write the last digit as MY NUMBER.

3. The team cracks the code together

At the last stop, the kids share their numbers, fill in the Team Code grid and add down each column. Playing solo? Their own numbers make the code.

A printed Crack the Team Code card with a grid where three kids add their numbers down each column to make the Team Code.

4. The code unlocks the ending

They show you the code. When it matches the boxes on the final card, hand it over: one last riddle leads to hidden treasure, a surprise card or a reward coupon.

The printed final clue card: Your code worked, the Team Code 6 9 7 8 9 in boxes, and a last riddle leading to the reward coupon.

One hunt. Different levels.

Siblings play the same adventure at the same time: the riddles are shared, the math is not. These are the three kid sheets from one real pirate hunt for ages 4, 7 and 10.

Age 4
Age 4 Deckhand sheet: count the pictures next to your name on each clue card and write the number.
Age 7
Age 7 First Mate sheet: adding and subtracting to 100 with the number from each clue card.
Age 10
Age 10 Captain sheet: times tables and division with the number from each clue card.

What you actually do

  1. Add your kids and their ages, pick a theme, and type your hiding spots.
  2. Print the mission and read the grown-up guide.
  3. Cut out the clues. The strip on each card tells you where to hide it, or to keep it for the end.
  4. Hand over Clue 1. When the kids show you their code, give them the final clue.
